The Garfield star point guard announced via Instagram earlier this year that he has committed to playing for the Huskies, and UW coach Mike Hopkins.

“Ain't no place like home.”

Johnson, a 4-star recruit according to 247 Sports, turned down offers from Arizona, San Diego State, and Loyola Marymount, to become a hometown hero and play for the dawgs.

Playstyle

"Has a slender build but with a long wing span. Has quick feet and hands and speed with the basketball but is not a powerful nor explosive athlete. Competitive and plays with energy. Good shooter from three both off the catch and off the dribble. Likes to get to the basket. Has room to develop his scoring in the midrange. Is a willing and early passer. Gives the ball up with timing. Dangerous defender. Uses his hands extremely well defensive disruptor. Has potential as a guard rebounder with his competitive instincts and sure hands." - Jerry Meyer, Director of Basketball Scouting

Plot Twist

Johnson had originally committed to San Diego State but later decommitted after an official vist to UW. The Huskies 12-8 hope Johnson can bring some energy and grit to the team next year. UW should look to build around the determined playmaker and maybe aim for a tournament run.
